Job description
🚀 About Us
MaiaSpace is a European space tech company, designing, manufacturing and operating competitive and sustainable solutions for space mobility. We are driven by the belief that access to space is a major enabler for a better and more sustainable life on Earth, addressing the challenges faced by humanity: climate, resources, connectivity, and data. Our aim is to successfully design and test a cost-effective and reusable mini-launch vehicle by 2026.
Upper Parts Sizing engineer – Full time
We are looking for a Sizing engineer to join Upper parts team. Upper Parts team is in charge of the development of the structures that will make the interface between the launcher and the various payloads (customer satellites).
In this role, you will be responsible for the mechanical analysis & structural justification (both metallic & composite components) from the preliminary design phase up to testing and flight-worthiness validation.
Job description
Your tasks will be the following:
Structural Analysis: Perform static and dynamic analyses on the various structures and sub-assemblies using advanced FEA tools (pre-post Hypermesh / solver Nastran MSC).
- Analysis plan: Define sizing work logics consistent with the maturity of the project and contribute to the overall development logic via identification of necessary tests.
- Analysis preparation: Elaborate the loads specification document based on the stage life phases, functional data (structures temperature and pressures), thermal, dynamic and flight loads.
- Stress Analysis: Calculate and evaluate stresses and strains, displacements, load factors, and safety margins of critical structural parts.
- Bolted junctions: justified bolted junctions between adjacent structures.
Design Validation: Support design teams by validating design choices through structural simulations, identifying risks, and proposing design optimizations.
Documentation:
- Elaborate the loads specification document of the structures, functional data (structures temperature and pressures), thermal, dynamic and flight loads.
- Document the results: prepare detailed technical reports and documentation of calculations, analysis results, and recommendations for engineering reviews.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including design, manufacturing, and testing teams, to ensure all structural requirements are met.
- Contribute to the engineering effort of your team and cross-functionally between teams, even if it involves work outside your main field of action, in order to contribute to the vehicle system synthesis.
🎓 Qualification
Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.Experience: 3+ years of experience in structural analysis in the aerospace industry, or related field.
🛸 Skills
- Strong knowledge and experience in structural mechanics
- Technical skills: Experience in finite element modelling and analysis (ideally Hypermesh / MSc NASTRAN), ideally applied on large / lightweight structures
- Knowledge of materials: metallic material properties, composite material and manufacturing processes
- Problem Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in structural assessments.
- Language: English level sufficient to read and write technical documentation, to perform oral technical presentation and to interact on technical topics
- Communication Skills: written and verbal communication skills to document analysis and communicate technical results effectively.
- Soft skills: Team spirit, sharing and solidarity. Pragmatism, rigor and precision.
