Upper Part Junior Engineer

We are looking for a Junior Engineer to join the Upper Part team. The Upper Part team is in charge of the development of the structures that will make the interface between the launcher and the various payloads (customer satellites). 

In this role, you will work closely with all the Product Engineers that are responsible for the development of the Upper Part Structures (LVA, PAF, Clamp Band...).  

Your tasks will be the following: 

Analysis dedicated topics associated to Upper Part structure: 

Lead engineering activities for some of the subsystems involved in Upper Part  Products:  

  • Define subsystem interfaces : mechanical interface, electrical interface  

  • Define subsystems specification derived from Product level requirements : functional requirements (when relevant), mechanical loads, dynamic environment, thermal environment, forbidden volume... 

  • Perform and document supporting justification analysis : CAD drawing and check,  mechanical pre-sizing, dynamic analysis, thermal analysis 

  • Supplier management up to subsystem delivery acceptance  

Support Product Leader on instrumentation definition :  

  • Sensors selection coherent with environment,  

  • Sensors support design & FE justification,  

  • Derive IRD to product supplier, 

  • Define product harnesses: collect pin to pin needs from avionics, define harness routings on the structure, track harness procurement & delivery  

  • Interface with team in charge of the measurement plan. 

Support Product Leader on tests activities:  

  • Define test configurations,  

  • Design & justify test jigs,  

  • Develop test instrumentation,  

  • Record the operations & collect lessons learnt. 

Support Product Engineer on AIT operation:  

  • Prepare the operations for the Product Engineer,  

  • Support the Product Leader to coordinate the activities in Kourou, ensure people safety during operations, report any risk
 

  • Record the operations & collect lessons learnt, being of force of proposal to improve operations.. 

Documentation: Prepare, ensure consistency & validate all documents & reports associated to the studies structures under its responsibilities 

Mobility: the candidate will have to spend several long stays (2 to 6 months) in Kourou during the first 3 years of its contract. 

Collaboration: 

  • Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including design, sizing, manufacturing, avionic, environment and testing teams, to ensure all structural requirements are met 

  • Contribute to the engineering effort of your team and cross-functionally between teams, even if it involves work outside your main field of action, in order to contribute to the vehicle system synthesis 

 

Qualifications & Skills 

Qualification: 

  • Education: Master's degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field 

  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in structure development in the aerospace industry, or related field 

 

Background and Skills 

  • Technical skills: CAD design proficiency on SolidWorks, FEM analysis, Structure design & mechanism design & development, Harness routings, creativity and conceptual design experiences. 

  • Problem Solving: Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in structural assessments 

  • Language: Good English level sufficient to read and write technical documentation, to perform oral technical presentation and to interact on technical topics in English 

  • Communication Skills: written and verbal communication skills to document analysis and communicate technical results effectively. 

  • Soft skills: Team spirit, Pragmatism, rigor.
