Job description
🚀 MaiaSpace is a European space tech company, designing, manufacturing and operating competitive and sustainable solutions for space mobility. We are driven by the belief that access to space is a major enabler for a better and more sustainable life on Earth, addressing the challenges faced by humanity: climate, resources, connectivity, and data. Our aim is to successfully design and test a cost-effective and reusable mini-launch vehicle by 2026.
We are looking for an intern to work on the welding characterization and FEM correlation to join one of our agile multi-disciplinary teams in charge of the development of the Maia Upper Stage cryogenic stage. The intern will be in charge of the welding characterization and the correlation scalable from unitary test to full scale representativeness. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the aerospace industry and contribute to innovative projects.
Your tasks will be the following:
- Weld Characterization:
- Use unitary tests results to evaluate the mechanical and thermal properties of welds, including tensile strength, hardness, and fracture toughness
- Analyze test results using statistical methods to identify critical parameters influencing weld performance
- Data Correlation:
- Develop and validate simulation models to predict weld behavior under tests conditions, including thermal and mechanical stresses
- Scaling:
- Use your modeling in order to scale it on 1 to 10 hardware and test results
- Then, using your model, predict test results on the scale 1 campaign
- Collaboration with the Team:
- Work closely with engineers in the Upper Stage Team to integrate weld characterization data into the overall design and sizing process
- Participate in project meetings and design reviews with supplier to understand the possibility of weld performance and reliability
Job requirements
🛸 Specific competences & abilities:
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of welding techniques (TIG, MIG, laser welding) and material characterization methods (tensile tests, hardness tests, metallography)
- Proficiency in simulation and analysis software (e.g., HyperMesh, OptiStruct, MATLAB)
- Knowledge of material characterization methods (tensile tests, hardness tests, metallography, fracture toughness tests)
- Familiarity with material science principles and their application to welding
Interpersonal Skills:
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Rigor and precision in experimental and analytical work
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Initiative and creativity in problem-solving

🎓 Qualification:
- Final-year engineering student or master's student in the field of mechanical engineering, materials science, or aerospace engineering
- English level sufficient to read and write technical documentation, to perform oral technical presentation and to interact on technical topics
🎬 Working at MaiaSpace:
You will be joining a friendly multi-disciplinary team, comprised of multi-skilled people, following Agile and Scrum methodologies. This means that your role and responsibility may evolve over time with varied assignments and challenges depending on priorities and competences. Your work will be hands-on and in close contact with the final product. We are open-minded, transparent, pragmatic, result oriented and people centric. Teamwork is at the heart of how we work together, and our co-workers share the same fundamental values: respect, humility, reactivity and autonomy with a passion for technical excellence. Our newly acquired office space at La Defense is located within the heart of Europe’s largest purpose built business and commercial district with easy access to public transport. Also, we have a second location integration site in Vernon (27). Regular trips between the two locations are to be expected. These displacements may be extended to Kourou when the time comes. The company allows home office when it is compatible with your responsibilities.
