Job description

MaiaSpace is a European space tech company, designing, manufacturing and operating competitive and sustainable solutions for space mobility. We are driven by the belief that access to space is a major enabler for a better and more sustainable life on Earth, addressing the challenges faced by humanity: climate, resources, connectivity, and data. Our aim is to successfully design and test a cost-effective and reusable mini-launch vehicle by 2026.

Cryogenic stage structural dynamic engineer

We are looking for a thermal engineer to join one of our Cryogenic Stage Teams. Our teams design, manufacture and test the cryogenic stages.

You will be in charge of the dynamic modelling of the cryogenic stage, determination of dynamic levels and loads on stage equipment & structures, dynamic test preparation & exploitation. All these activities will be performed in close collaboration the collaborator in charge of overall stage mechanical justification.

Your tasks will be the following:

  • Elaborate & document cryogenic stage dynamic models (structure & fluid) to be integrated in launcher models and dynamic loops or stage dynamic analysis
  • Collect input load cases and/or elaborate load cases when relevant
  • Perform modal analysis
  • Determine accelerations on cryogenic stages equipment and dynamic loads (sine, random and shocks) on structures based on personal knowledge, collection of expert feedback, analytical or finite element calculations.
  • Support team in checking compatibility of equipment with dynamic environment
  • Contribute to elaborating the structural sizing margin policy
  • Contribute to the launcher system dynamic flight worthiness logic & contribute to stage mechanical flight worthiness logic
  • Perform exploratory dynamic analysis to help drive the design of cryogenic stage structures (lines, avionics and equipment support structures…)
  • Design and justify damping systems if relevant
  • Identify required unit dynamic tests to ensure launcher flight worthiness, define test objectives, specify test and test instrumentation, support test preparation (risk analysis…), perform test predictions, perform test exploitations (unit tests: vessels in liquid sloshing tests, …)
  • Perfom dynamic test predictions ahead of stage system & firing tests on test stand (model & perform simulations), define test objectives, define necessary instrumentation & exploit tests
  • Write necessary documentation: model descriptions, justification file contributions, test prediction & exploitation reports.

Job requirements

🛸 Specific competences & abilities:

  • Strong knowledge and experience in thermal engineering, prior experience appreciated
  • Knowledge and experience of launch vehicles or aerospace/aeronautics vehicles is appreciated
  • Experience in finite element modelling and analysis (Hypermesh, Hyperworks, Nastran), ideally applied on large lightweight structures
  • Experience with programming languages (Python, VBA)
  • Knowledge on metallic material properties and manufacturing processes (composite appreciated)
  • English level sufficient to read and write technical documentation, to perform oral technical presentation and to interact on technical topics

🎓 Qualification:

Engineering Master degree ideally specialized in thermal engineering

Experience: 5 to 10 years of experience in aerospace engineering or a related field
